Our Team

Anna Machasic

Hello! My name is Anna, and I serve Helping Hands as the founder, Executive Director, and service provider as our resident postpartum doula. As a mom twice a over, I understand first-hand the complications of the postpartum period. Pregnancy alone is a time of rapid-fire body and brain changes. And, while birth is beautiful, it is a trauma to the body, requiring some level of recovery. Add to that round-the-clock infant care, lactation, hormone shifts (yet again), and sleep-deprivation, and it becomes quite obvious that all birthing people need a helping hand in this incredible time of transition. That’s why we at Helping Hands seek to make receiving support accessible to all new parents. We believe postpartum support is a human right, not a luxury.

Prior to my role serving Helping Hands, I enjoyed a 20+ year career as a nanny, specializing in infant care and postpartum support. My family became licensed foster parents during the COVID shutdown, providing a home to two young children (one of which was a medically fragile infant). I am CPR/first aid certified and fully vaccinated and boosted. I received a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Eastern Michigan University. In my spare time I love to garden, read, snuggle babies, and hike with my family in nature.

Jillian Rizwan

Hello, I’m Jillian and I am honored to serve as a Director and Secretary for Helping Hands Postpartum Support. I met Anna when I hired her as our nanny shortly after my daughter was born. I had no idea how much help I needed at that time, but once I began receiving it I quickly realized how substantial the transition to parenthood was. I am forever grateful for the physical and emotional support Anna provided. When she asked me to be a part of this organization I was beyond excited to become a part of something I feel so passionately about. I am ecstatic to see these services offered to new parents in a practical and attainable way.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University and have worked as a CPA for the last 8 years. Outside of my professional career, I have a passion for loving and helping people. I spend my free time practicing yoga and volunteering at my local hospital on the Mother/Baby Unit helping the nurses and nurses aids prepare for new patients, perform hearing tests on infants, and any other tasks that may be helpful.

Sara Amberg

Hello there, I’m Sara! I’m so excited to be the Director of Human Psychology for Helping Hands! As a mom of 3, I know firsthand just how important it is to have emotional, mental, and physical support while navigating our way through life - especially motherhood. It makes such a difference in the experience of it all. I am beyond excited and honored to be a part of this organization to help offer support to others.

My background is heavily focused in research of individual needs as well as specialized groups. I have a Master’s degree in sociology and have completed all coursework for my doctorate. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology.

In addition to keeping up on current research in these areas, I also manage my husband’s business. I love to spend time with my family doing some of our favorite things - hiking, skiing, spending time up north, walking our dogs, and cheering on our Detroit sports teams!!!

Jason Machasic

My name is Jason. It is my privilege to serve as Treasurer and Marketing Director for Helping Hands Postpartum Support. I have been married for over two decades and have two beautiful daughters. I know from a partner’s perspective the tremendous benefits a doula provides before, during and after a pregnancy. I am excited about our mission to specifically bring postpartum support to those who need it most. Our organization provides services to a largely under-served population of people during a high-need moment in life. I am highly motivated to do my part in fulfilling our mission.

I have a bachelor’s degree in management from Michigan State University, an MBA in Marketing from Oakland University and an Executive Certificate in Behavioral Economics from Yale University. During the day, I lead a marketing organization as Director of Corporate Marketing for a large healthcare company. I have over twenty five years of experience in various sales, management, finance and marketing roles. I enjoy DIY projects, outdoor adventures and geeking out on personal finance.
